So here is the project I'm working on over break. It is my representation of the internet in paper. It is a puzzle fold book so it can be opened many different ways as one browses through both specific topics and guilty pleasures.
Porn obviously had to be included in this project so I went to Borders and bought my first porn! It is so weird because obviously I and most people have seen a lot of porn, but you don't have to buy it anymore seeing as it is all over the internet for free.
I mostly use the internet for communication, to find out good places to go for entertainment and food, reference and just general time wasting.
This is so cool!
ReplyDeleteI thought this was such a creative and fun idea! I’ve never seen a book like this and now I’m really intrigued by all those books that you and Kat were talking about. I thought that this was a clever way of displaying commonly used paths of the internet. The way it opens up successfully symbolizes the randomness of sites that people peruse when they’re online. Another generative topic for this piece could be anything relating to how the internet has become a utopia of information and/or how it has replaced other means of information.
ReplyDeleteBeth, I thought your book was a great piece! It was fun to watch everyone in class open it in a new ways and discover new things. Everyone had their own experience, which I think is really true with peoples' internet use. I guess another aspect of the internet is advertisements since there are so any pop-up ads and ads on websites.
ReplyDeleteLoooveeedd the alternative book/map! I think it absolutely captured the essence of the assignment. Especially personifying the point of different paths and routes in life as well as surfing the internet. The piece would not nearly have had its impact if you had not brought it in for all of us to experience- and that's the point- we all take different paths!
ReplyDeleteWow! what can I say! I love this piece. I am someone who loves making artist books so this ones unique folding really appealed to me. This piece was really the jumping point our group took for our generative topic. I hope you have more pieces like this you are thinking of making or have already made! Congratulations on a very successful piece!
ReplyDeleteA. I wish I could be half as productive and inspired as you, I mean holy shit.
ReplyDeleteB. When I was working on this project all I could think about was how much of an interesting idea you had, and when I tried to explain the assignment to friends I used yours as an example. Making your interpretation of the internet could be anything, and yours was really an interesting and witty stream of consciousness through the little research missions we go on and the things that side track and cause us to stray from our paths. In conclusion... stop making us all look bad?
hah, thanks for the compliments Kat.
ReplyDeleteBut please, half the class is showing me up on a regular basis ;)
It is a brave project...not so many women will
ReplyDeletesay that they will include porn and how they
feel about porn...at least not so publicly.
Bravo!
I was so close to making a fold book that represented the internet too, but your book turned out to be more successful and crafted better then i envisioned mine to have turned out. I like how it was easy to get sucked into this book with all the different ways you can flip and fold the pages differently.
