New Paintings

The last few months have been very busy for me in the studio. Every time I start to feel like a pro, I begin to learn all sorts of new things which reminds me that I am still a student and learning so much all the time... something that I hope can continue for a long time.

I've been focusing on still life as far as my painting is concerned. There are a couple others that belong here; one I haven't photographed and the other is in progress. Also, I've begun working with the landscape in fabric. More photos to come soon!

I plan on adding in dimensions for these pieces here but nothing is bigger than 19" to give you some sense of scale. These are not my professional slides either which I say so that you know all of the canvases are put together nicely, not warped as they may appear below.

Summer Work

Well this Summer has been really rough in the way of painting.. just hasn't worked out because of space issues.  I'm hurting for it real bad and can't wait to get back into the studio (five more weeks, blah!).  

I've done a couple images on the computer for people though...

The textures in this piece immediately grabbed my attention and it wasn't until after loving that for a while that I even noticed the figures.  This is an important aspect of painting for me; creativity with the actual medium weighing equally or more than the concept of the piece.  While I can appreciate a great conceptual piece, I truly love getting lost in a medium.  My recent floral pieces have been celebrating this; which has also been a much needed break from more conceptual work. 

For years I was beginning paintings with a lot of time focused on what I was trying to say before I ever touched a brush.  I appreciate this method and by no means have thrown it out, but jumping into the paint straight away thinking of only design has been liberating.  I plan on doing three to four more florals, two random pieces I've already promised and then hopefully I'll have time this Summer to begin working on a few pieces which subtly begin in concept but having that be only perhaps 20% of the work.

Now the only thing is to get more nice days so I can set up my materials on the balcony.  I suppose I could use the attic on rainy days like these though.
